Introduction to Health Supplements:
A health supplement serves as a dietary complement and supports or mntns the healthy functions of the body. These products do not include injectables or sterile preparations like injections and eye drops, and they are not meal replacements or beverages like biscuits, coffee, and juice.
Health supplements must contn one or more of these ingredients:
Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, enzymes, probiotics, and other bioactive substances
Extracts, isolates, and concentrates derived from natural sources animal, mineral, botanical materials
Synthetic forms of aforementioned ingredients
These products are avlable in various small unit doses in capsule form, softgels, tablets, liquids, or syrups.
Regulations on Health Supplements:
Health supplements do not require approvals or licensing by the Health Sciences Authority HSA for importation, manufacturing, and sales. However, HSA prohibits adding medicinal ingredients like steroids into health supplements. It also imposes strict limitations on toxic heavy metals in these products. The dealers including importers, manufacturers, wholesale dealers, and sellers are obligated to ensure that their health supplement products are not hazardous or unsafe.
Voluntary Notification of Health Supplements:
